Grief

cPTSD

Anxiety
Love and grief are two sides of the same coin. When we experience a loss, whether through the death of someone we love, a violation of our sense of safety, the destruction of our home or environment, a missed opportunity or major life change - we open ourselves to grief. It often shows up as a painful and complex mix of emotions, and if left unaddressed could lead to prolonged suffering. Tending to our grief is a brave and beautiful thing. It is not a linear or logical process, but must be led by the heart. When grief is witnessed, it transforms into something more gentle and manageable. Let us be an apprentice to your grief.
Trauma comes in many forms. It can be any distressing experience that shifts our worldview in a way that we struggle to reconcile. Complex post traumatic stress disorder may occur when a disturbing or upsetting situation persists for an extended period of time without proper acknowledgement or support. It may originate in childhood if you grew up in a setting that did not feel physically or emotionally safe. You may become stuck in a trauma response, reliving the imprint of past suffering. By regulating the nervous system and soothing the soul, we can begin to write a new life narrative. Are you ready to call back your power?
Racing thoughts, restlessness, worrying about worst case scenarios, nervous leg bouncing, and increased heart rate can become daily experiences when suffering from anxiety. This is essentially fear of the future. Considering the state of the world, it is actually a normal and justified response. However, when these symptoms begin interfering with our ability to enjoy life and be here now, it is a sign that we may need some help. Thankfully, mindfulness practices can help to slow down the mind and somatic work reconnects us to our lived bodily experience - allowing for more moments of peace.

Spirituality

Dissociation

Insomnia
Spirituality comes in many forms. The psychiatrist Carl Jung referred to the numinous as that which points beyond the reality of the conscious self. He coined the term synchronicity and considered active imagination, dreams, and unexplainable encounters that evoke awe to be the true work of therapy. Spirituality provides a strong source of resilience, purpose, and meaning in our lives. I believe it is an important aspect of the mind-body-spirit triad and vital dimension of our overall wellbeing. Grounding spirituality
through ritual, nature, and art can awaken wonder and a will to live.
I welcome all beliefs and curiosities without judgement.
Does it ever feel like things are unreal? Like you're living in a dream? Perhaps you have out-of-body experiences or feel drawn back away from the world. Dissociation can happen for many reasons, and while it may be unsettling, it's often a natural response when life is overwhelming. It can also accompany a loss of your sense of self. You may not even recognize yourself in the mirror. I support clients in finding ways to reconnect with their body while becoming more at ease during times of severe or prolonged dissociation. There is so much potential to heal and become aligned with who you really are.
Struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep can be a frustrating and lonely experience. Perhaps you have nightmares, causing you to dread falling asleep. We know that sleep is essential to our health, so why is it so difficult? Sleep is a form of surrender, where we allow our subconscious mind to take over and our body to rest. Many factors can disrupt this process. Anxiety and trauma often result in an overactive nervous system and we may not feel safe enough to release our waking consciousness. Screens and dysregulated routines confuse our brain. The path to a restful night's sleep is also multifaceted, and it is possible.
